DIY Drawer Storage System
Build a 2-drawer pull-out system under your sleeping platform — tools list, cut plan, and full instructions.
Measure the space under your platform between the platform surface and cargo floor. Standard clearance is 10–14". This determines your max drawer height (subtract 1" for clearance).
Build a box frame from 3/4" plywood that matches the width of your cargo area minus 1" each side for easy sliding. Use 1/2" plywood for drawer boxes to save weight.
Install drawer slides (22" full-extension ball-bearing slides work for most SUVs). Mount to the frame sides and drawer boxes — test for smooth operation before final mounting.
Add drawer pulls or recessed handles. Flush pull-rings work best for cargo-area drawers. Add a locking mechanism (simple turn-latch) to prevent drawers opening while driving.
Line drawer bottoms with non-slip mat cut to size. Label each drawer with contents. Common layout: Driver side = kitchen gear, Passenger side = tools/recovery.
