DIY Car Camping Insulation & Window Covers
Reflectix and closed-cell foam window cover system for 4-season comfort, privacy, and total blackout.
Gather materials: Reflectix roll (25ft), foam pipe insulation (weatherstripping), contact cement or spray adhesive, scissors or utility knife, and paper for templates.
Template each window by pressing paper against the glass and tracing the outline with a marker. Add 1/2" overage for a snug press-fit that holds without magnets or snaps.
Cut Reflectix pieces from templates. For extra insulation in cold climates, glue a second layer of closed-cell foam camping pad material (1/4") to the interior side of each piece.
Test fit each cover in the vehicle — they should press-fit firmly with no light gaps. Trim as needed. Label each cover (FR = front right, etc.) on the interior side with a marker.
Store covers in a dedicated bag under the platform when not in use. Properly fitted Reflectix covers reduce interior temp by 15–20°F on hot days and retain heat in cold weather.
