Modular Car Camping Build System
A full sleeping platform and storage system that installs and removes in under 20 minutes. No permanent modifications.
The modular system is built in 3 independent sections that bolt together inside the vehicle: (1) Aft sleeping platform, (2) Forward gear shelf, (3) Side storage pods. Each section fits through a standard rear door independently.
Use T-track aluminum extrusion along the frame edges — this allows accessories (lights, hooks, holders) to be added and repositioned without drilling. T-track is the backbone of modular builds.
Design each section to weigh under 30 lbs for solo handling. Use 1/2" plywood rather than 3/4" where possible and aluminum angle bracing instead of wooden corner blocks.
Connect sections with quick-release tool-free hardware (Rockler toggle clamps or similar). Practice the full install/remove cycle — your target is under 20 minutes before considering the build 'finished'.
Build a dedicated storage system for the disassembled platform. A duffle bag with padded dividers protects edges and keeps all hardware together when the system is out of the vehicle.
